iZOCLEANZE: My First 3-Day Juice "Feast!"

The Meeting

Back in December I came across a remarkable company at the Eco Gift Expo called iZoCleanze.

The CEO, Tim Martin was making delicious veggie juices all weekend long and giving them out for free to everyone at the Expo, along with informational materials about his amazing service.

In exchange for his kind juice gifts, I invited Tim to lie down on the massage table I had set up as part of my booth. Every few hours I would intuitively choose someone who I knew would be ripe for a powerful energetic mind-body experience and work on them for 20 minutes or so to bring them into balance, relieve stress and see where their system was ready to go - and of course to  give any passersby a sense of what my work was about. (See more about my work here.)

Tim confirmed something I have known for over a decade in powerful style: no sooner did I and my assistant Sarah begin sharing our energetic touch techniques with him (which vary from circulatory and deep tissue massage strokes, to craniosacral holds, to powerful energy-activating techniques) than he started to really open up.

It was so beautiful to see this complete stranger having a profoundly spiritual experience of his own energy flow, to see him opening up emotionally, trembling, sweating, laughing and exclaiming in wonder at what was happening as his body let go, his state of mind shifted and his heart expanded.

He looked up at us with a grin after a minute or two and let us know he was part way through a "juice feast" - which means he had been fasting on his own remarkable blends of veggie juices, herbal teas, rice protein and hemp milk, mineral supplements and more..

Integrative Practice - It's All  Connected!

Those of you who know about my Big Sky Healing Arts system understand that cleansing is a key component in terms of unpacking the amazing energetic gifts of practices like yoga and bodywork - the more detoxified your tissues are, the more effectively your organs are doing their jobs, the less acidic your internal environment is, the easier it is to heal injuries and become flexible and strong, the more likely you are to maintain optimum health and most importantly (because it underlies alll the previous statements) the more vital life force you have available pumping through your body.

That last statement about life force energy is not just fluffy new age talk. Its a physiological, experiential, psychospiritual reality that, without fail, anyone I have guided toward cleansing as part of their mind-body process has been blown away by!

It's the difference between me touching your neck and it feeling good, and me touching your neck and you getting goosebumps down to your toes - because the access to energy and aliveness in your nervous system is that open! It's the difference between your yoga practice being a sluggish struggle that you work through because it does you good - and your yoga practice being infused with a sense of luminosity, grace and ecstatic fluidity in the body!

So, Tim's extraordinary availability to an energetic process on the table that day made me want to know more about his system, and tell him more about mine - and it made me want to share him with all of you..

But of course that has to begin at home.... I have done a lot of cleansing over the years - and it was one of the things that helped me cure my Lyme Disease a few years back - but never anything like the izocleanze approach.

My Journey Begins

Today I am on Day One of  three-day izocleanze - and it's amazing!

Each morning before 6 a.m. a compact cooler arrives silently outside your door. It contains 11 pints of incredible mixed veggie juices and herbal teas, vials of mineral liquid, and a pack of cleansing supplements.

So far today I have put only very tasty high-quality fresh veggie juice and herbal tea in my body. I have been interested to see how I handle fasting (or "feasting") given that I have a tendency toward low bloodsugar.

I did notice about an hour ago that i was feeling very blissed out and a little shaky - also that the colors around me were brighter and started to wonder if i was going hypoglycemic ... Time to look into the cooler and see what was next on the well-planned izocleanze schedule.

Wow! A delicious protein shake made from hemp milk and rice protein! that hit the spot, took away any food cravings and settled my bloodsugar nicely - but I still feel blissed out and brimming with energy... nice!

See the comments section below for more reports as the fast/feast continues...

Day Two:

Well I felt balanced and (to my surprise) had plenty of energy and focus to teach my class last night! Felt strong and centered.

Last night I finished off my quota of juice, tea and lemonade and put the cooler full of empty jars outside my front door.

Felt very sleepy by 11 pm - which is unusual for me, I usually have to make an effort to be in bed before 1 am.

Slept very well for about 9 hours and woke up feeling wonderful: calm, grounded, clear-headed.

Just had my first 90 minute photoshop tutorial and found that my ability to learn and focus was very steady and unflappable - which again suprised me because I had prepared myself to be kinda low blooodsugar and spacey..

the green & red juices i've had so far this morning have really hit the spot - soon it will be time for the purifying tea..

Have done juicing and raw food diet (although not for a while and this inspires me to go for it!).  I also have had hypoglycemia.  Rule of thumb the fruit juices cleanse and the veggies support so you may want to limit those with lots of sugar (including carrot and beet juice)…just a thought.  I am sure they have you on a regime.

Thanks for sharing…I appreciate you!  Having spent a lifetime in health care and past years utilizing every alternative modality available to me it is difficult not to chime in on these issues…

Have a great fast/feast and I know you will feel the difference.

oh yea absolutely starseed. thanks!

so far bloodsugar has been very manage-able…they have a great system.

its two green juices blends, two red juice blends (w/beets), two lemonade drinks, one hemp milk/rice protein drink, two purifying teas and two tonfiying teas.

each is a pint and all 11 pints are consumed each day!

the feast order is:

green, red, purifying, tonifying, protein, purifying, green, lemonade, tonifying, red,  lemonade.

i just did an hour long deep stretch yoga sequence and my body is definitely processing - i am going deeper in the poses than usual and accessing layers of tension/tingling/emotion that are very interesting..

yes this is one profound way that we can work with our biochemistry to influence our experience of reality.

however reality itself will largely remain what it is - and knowing the difference between what i can and cannot change is the definition of wisdom according to the old prayer- yes?

i think the universe just took out about 25,000 of our kin in burma while your cleansing..does that answer your question? but remember, they choose to die that way before they came here, or god pre-ordained that they would die and be punished forever 6000 years ago..now, who couldn't love a god like that…..
um, yes. by the mid 80's i had it to the point where my bodily excretions smelled like roses!lol
but alas, such bliss was not to last, and i got the living shit kicked out of me by a rich masonic family…..and when that happens, a single malt scotch and a half decent cigarette don't seem so bad……but you know, we all go through different phases in our live and who's really to say that there isn't ultimate purpose or meaning…………
i guess if i have a gripe with the whole vegan/veggie/green food movement it's this…..what you eat doesn't make you more spiritual or better than anyone else. fallacy! although there are good arguments that make a lot of sense that these diets are ecologically sustainable. and i know by experience that there is a profound link to diet and psychological, emotional and spiritual well-being…….but your not levitating off this planet any time soon, or casting out demons by the way……….
pizza, pizza, chocolate cake, waffles with fresh strawberries and maple syrup, kettle chips, snickers bars, home made pan fries, california rolls, man i must be hungry….lol

great good fortune to be privileged enough to take care of mind & body, fine-tune one's well-being etc & not dying in burma under calamitous circumstances.

& boy do i hear you on the pretentious & fallacious identification of diet with enlightenment - so annoying!!

:O)

Julian : integral healer

andrew that fallacy is also nicely deconstructed using integral theory a la the 4 quadrants.

while changing one's biochemistry (upper right quadrant) via cleansing and diet is powerful, it does not translate into the interior growth (upper left quadrant) that something like meditation can facilitate - though it may set the stage nicely and provide good support for that inner journey!

the program does seem well planned. good to know it is balancing your blood-sugar.

3, 5, 7, 30 and 100 days… only those with a disposable income can afford this!
hell, it better make you fly!

the powdered version is more reasonably priced but still up there. i look forward to hearing how that one makes your body feel in comparison to the fresh feasting you are doing now.

yes, it is just plain good for you, but come on… aren't there cheaper ways to come clean?

Julian : integral healer
1 day later
Julian said

is here a cheaper way? absolutely annie - do the research oneself, buy a juicer and do all the juicing and clean-up yourself every day.

my guess is that (after the not insignificant outlay for a really good juicer) it would cost significantly less, but the time invested viz preparing 11 pints per day and cleaning the mess would be prohibitive in its own way…and the learning curve viz making the liquids actually taste drinkable would be steep!

this is convenient, tasty, well thought out and high quality, plus its a delivery service anywhere in l.a. by 6 a.m.

you are absolutely right though - it is for those with disposable income and it is a business.

for those who can do it, it provides wonderful health benefits.

as you know i have been steeped in the supplemental cleansing realm for about 10 years and have found it very effective - and in my initial phases of really going there with supplemental cleansing i got used to spending between $400 and $900 per month. it changed my life in so many ways and was a revelation as the “missing piece” that made bodywork and yoga effective in a completely new way and helped me to overcome a serious neck problem and feel so much better in my body.

well this is a different (perhaps even more “natural”)approach and it has good science to back it up viz the effects of fasting and the benefits of the liquid diet provided.

ultimately there is no final “clean” condition, and its also not like an oil change that you have to have every 3000 miles . this kind of stuff is about health, well-being, self-care and a certain fascination with the experiment.

of course the price will be inhibitive for many - and when i first heard about it i thought , yea right…but learning more about the cleanze, experiencing it and seeing what they put into it, the business model makes sense and the service/product is amazing.

i am looking forward to trying the powdered superfood cleanze - because i know that will be a slightly more realistic one to pitch to my extended community.

at the same time i highly recommend trying a 3-day juice feast to anyone who can afford the outlay. see what you think and then consider going further at a later date…

SO: Day Three

last night i did not get sleepy as early, but i did fall into an emotional funk - due i am sure to the cleansing process as well as taking a rare full day off to experience the process, do yoga, meditate etc.. breaking my usual cycle of activity and food gave me a chance to sink in a little more a deal with some “stuff”.

ah, and there was the - shall we say - fluid experience of going to bathroom? interesting productions in the afternoon and evening.

its almost one pm and i am on my final day. have had green and red veggie juices and both he purifying and tonifying teas so far… honestly i have only really had one serious food craving and it was driving home from teaching my class on the first night. bloodsugar is actually more stable in the morning than is usual for me - must be something about eating carbs at night…

today i feel light and optimistic - ready to get creative, thinking of blogging projects and a fourth zymposium - balder, jim, hokai - where you at?! :O)

Julian, yes. Of course that particular prayer is over wrought with signifiers and signifieds. We're here in Colorado (arrived an hour ago) get to see our youngest son graduate from college. Yikes.  400-900 dollars a month? That is too rich for my blood. But I do think regular fasting and juicing and cleansing has wonderful benefits. I'm delighted that you are sharing your experience with everyone.  Both the experience of reality and the interpretation of reality can be deeply influenced by what goes in and out of our mouthes. It's interesting.best to everyone, I won't be fasting or juicing for the next few days.coyote

the thing is the cleanze euphoria gets better the longer you go (provided you're on a cleanze which completely supports your nutritional needs such as the iZO Cleanze).  i've done 63 days on iZO and it was just an amazing experience.  i had tons of energy.  i was super clear and focused.  i stopped losing weight when i had finally lost that very last pound i wanted to lose (around Day 40).  and as Julian said in the beginning of his blog, my energy was flowing like a river of lightning through me (I  was on Day 38 or 39 when Julian worked on me at the eco gift expo and my arms were numb for a full hour after i got off his table and i don't think he really touched them- he merely conducted them).  long term incredible.  i was trying to go for 100 days but was derailed by matters of the heart.  i will be blogging about it soon.  it's quite an entertaining story  in itself.

i new that julian was supernatural……:)
when my 16 year old was born i juiced for her and her mom throughout the nine months (yes, a lot of work) and i was amazed at how beautiful her skin was right out of the womb-just perfect! so, all you expecting moms-get with the program! but, of course, you shouldn't cleanse while pregnant..but juicing as a supplement i think is excellent…………my understanding is that juicing balances the bodies ph levels, too……by the way, i used to hitch-hike with mason jars that i kept full of fresh alfalfa and mung bean spouts…excellent easily digestible source of amino acids. my fasting mix was purified water, organic lemon juice, with apple cider vinegar and a touch of cayenne pepper…..very effective, although i was never really as disciplined as some folks seem to be on this issue…….
we're pretty much agreed on the aqal…….but i respectfully don't share your view on ultimate meaning;although of course, you could be right….i think it's more prudent to hold that view as an opinion rather than an assertion of fact……….

Julian : integral healer
2 days later
Julian said

sounds absolutely amazing andrew - yum!

nope not supernatural just engaged in the magic of the real and the miracle of the mortal..

ok so we agree on the aqal detail - yay!

now then: do you have a proposal for the ultimate meaning of the tragedy in burma? how about the 100's of thousands dead in iraq - perhaps the 6 M jews in the holocaust?

i am not sure where you are coming from, but i think its a confusion of the word meaning to attempt any kind of metaphysical superimposition onto tragedy and barbarism - its tragic precisely because it defies meaning - and (in my opinion of course - though i challenge anyone to come up with any reasonable counter argument) the only reason i can see to try and make meaning out of meaningless tragedy is one of softening the blow with a made-up story that distorts reality… which is all well and good unless you happen to be partial to the truth, no?

ultimately i think the truth sets us free and facing the reality of suffering on its own terms is a pre-requisite for spiritual maturity. failing that we are trying to make everything ok, when actually everything is not ok..and that sounds more like denial than spirituality, no?

meaning is a function of the UL quadrant, yea? though meaning is subjective there are ways of deducing philosophically, artistically and psyhospiritually the depth and accuracy (truthfulness) of the meaning being interpreted. (it's like wilber said to me in our dialog on “the secret” - “can it pass the auschwitz test?)

something like a mass tragedy, accidental death or injury, holocaust etc.. can only truly be said to have meaning in the sense of a given social context , psychological or poetic interpretation, not in any overarching pollyana anxiety-reducing sense - but the meaning we can reasonably ascribe  does not change the essential detail that tragedy and horror affect us the way they do because they defy meaning - the make a mockery of our orderly mental and emotional desire for meaning, they rip our human schema to shreds and (if we're honest ) leave us spiritually whimpering…

as to one's personal journey - i am partial to david whyte's assertion that “human life is magnificent precisely because you can fail at it…”

given that long ramble - what are you getting at viz a vis ultimate meaning - what does that phrase even mean? a big book in heaven's  antechamber, a karmic game of hopscotch, a giant astrological connect-the-dots? :O)

do tell..

julian,

you and i both know that i firmly believe in the power and effects cleansing can have on ones life. that first year you took me through cleansing cost about the same as your $400-900 a month deal. i didn't question it. i needed help and wanted change no matter what. debt could be worried about later… death physically was at hand.
you helped guide me through that transformation beautifully. i went in to the process hoping for relief and found the following: 100 + pounds lighter, considerablly stronger, clearer mind, and life changing moments abound.
i guess this has been a venting of frustration toward money and health.
i look at the students in my classroom, most of whom are obese. they are sent to school with large bags of chips for lunch or destine to eat the free lunch at school, which is always cheese based and full of grease and fat. many families can't afford the healthy food. 40 cent burgers at Mc D's for a family of 4 or more is where they are. of course there is little to no nutritional value in the food, but their tummies aren't growling anymore.
i teach healthy choices to the kids, they take it in. i share my before and after photos, those speak volumes. the kids want to feel better, they want to make the better choices… but reality is many of their families can't afford the healthy choices. here is where my frustration lies… our future is already sick, can they afford to get well?
i enjoyed reading about your increase in energy and rebalancing of your systems. it brought back the feelings i had 3 years ago when i first started the cleansing regime. keep me posted on the powder outcome.
with gratitude, annie
